After 34 consecutive saved games, Kenley Jansen did not deliver in Sunday’s game. The Curaçao native gave up three runs against Atlanta Braves.
The Dodgers’ closer came up in the top of the ninth inning. It was not his day, blowing his first save since August 26 last season. He had converted 34 consecutive saves.
Jansen yielded back-to-back singles to lead off the ninth inning, staked to a 4-1 lead. The Curaçao closer managed to get two outs, but Matt Adams hit a three-run home run down the right field line to knot the game at four apiece.
Luckily for Jansen, the Dodgers, came back to win the game anyway. After Sunday’s lackluster performance, he is now 24-for-25 in save chances this season with a 1.49 ERA and a 62/2 K/BB ratio in 42 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old from Willemstad is still the best closer in the Major League Baseball right now.
